In this 5-minute video, I show how to convert 2D graphics into 3D models in Blender by demonstrating how to add thickness and texture to flat application icon images.
This technique is not only useful for creating realistic user interfaces, but also for 3D printing or VR modeling. In addition, by simply adding textures and lighting effects, this handy skill can help designers enrich and diversify their 2D work for a wider range of graphic design applications.
Someone suggested me remove the background behind the portraits in future videos, which would allow the viewer's attention to be better focused on the tutorial content. I am now working on a new short instructional video and will take this suggestion in the future!
